Plastic bottle recovery rate of 98.5%
The country's waste sorting work dates back to the 1980s. In the mid-1980s, Germany began to implement waste sorting and recycling. In the 1990s, waste sorting was officially opened in Germany.
The most famous measure in German waste sorting is the “return bottle feeâ€. In 2003, the German government issued the "Beverage Packaging Deposit Regulations", which stipulates that anyone who purchases beverages in Germany must pay an additional deposit of 0.25 euros as a container to ensure that the containers are returned for recycling.
When the customer finishes the drink and returns to the mall with an empty bottle, the empty bottle is thrown into the automatic recycling machine, and the small ticket printed with the amount of the bottle is recovered. The customer can get a refund of the 0.25 Euro deposit at the checkout counter with a small ticket, which completes the recycling process of the beverage bottle.
A set of data shows the success of the “bottleback feeâ€. According to 2012 data, the safety recovery rate of German cans, glass bottles and plastic bottles is 98.5%, and the volume of domestic waste is reduced by 40%-50%.
At present, 40 countries and regions in the world have implemented a deposit refund system. Driven by the deposit refund system, the recovery rate of beverage standard packaging in most implementing countries can reach more than 90%.
