The total number of chemicals that have been classified as prohibited and restricted worldwide has increased to 21 types. This revision is the first list of chemical substances added to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants to limit or prohibit the use of chemicals.

Chemicals such as diphenyl ether, chlordecone, hexabromobiphenyl, **, pentachlorobenzene, and PFOS and their salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride are ubiquitous and used to varying degrees Insecticides, fireproofing agents or other commercial uses are therefore often ingested into human and animal organs.
