Midea develops fuel extraction technology from algae
How to develop “green†energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels is a topic that many scientists have been working on. A U.S. company issued a statement a few days ago that its researchers have successfully developed technologies to extract "ultra-clean" fuel from algae.
Sapphire Energy, headquartered in San Diego, Calif., said in a statement that the fuel extracted from algae using this technology has a green appearance and that the fuel can be further refined. The effect of the finished product is equivalent to an "ultra-clean version" of gasoline or diesel. This type of fuel does not suffer from the drawbacks of general biofuels, that is, it does not produce large amounts of food crops.
However, the statement did not disclose the specific production method, but said that the fuel was produced by mixing algae with sunlight, carbon dioxide, and non-potable water to produce a chemical reaction. It is no different from low-sulfur light crude but much cleaner than the latter.
Jasmine Pyle, CEO of Sapphire Energy, said that this fuel can be refined using existing refinery equipment. The refined fuel can be used in cars and trucks, and the effect is the same as the current use of gasoline and diesel. However, due to the absence of sulfur or nitrogen, this fuel will cause much less environmental pollution. Pyle believes that this technology can help the United States reduce its dependence on imported oil and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
