EdgeCAM makes a shortcut to five-axis post processing
In the application process of multi-axis machining centers, the support of CAM software is indispensable, but in the post-processing production process, different software adopts different ways. Moreover, the customization process of post-processing is cumbersome and requires some practical application experience. Here, I share some experiences accumulated in my work.
There are many types of CAM software available today. Let's take EdgeCAM as an example. Because this software is more commonly used in our work, it has many unique features in post-processing and is relatively easy to master. In the post-processing production process, it is first necessary to understand the structure type of the machine tool and the characteristics of the control system. These technical conditions are very important. Due to the different structure of the five-axis machine tool, there are many contents to be considered in the post-production processing. There are many types of processing control systems, and different control systems have different processing methods, which causes a huge bottleneck in the current five-axis application.
First, let's take a look at the type of five-axis machine tool. The five-axis machine tool is a popular name for people. It should be called a five-coordinate linkage machine. The motion structure is realized by three translational coordinates plus two rotation coordinates. According to the configuration of the rotation coordinates of the five-axis machine tool, it can be generally divided into three categories, namely, the double-turn table machine (the two rotary tables are superimposed together), the double-swing head machine, the single-turn table and the single-swing head machine. Each machine has its own characteristics and scope of application. The double-turn machine has a simple structure and good rigidity. It is a widely used structural mode, but such equipment is generally not too large; the double-swing machine is the most complex but rigid. The lower the stroke, the stroke is generally used on large equipment such as gantry milling machines; the performance of the single turret single oscillating head device is between the two, so it is widely used, whether it is large, medium or small equipment. When the machine tools of different structures are processed after configuration, the relationship of coordinate transformation is different. For example, equipment such as double turntables is divided into 24 types according to the movement of each coordinate axis, and there are also 24 types of double swing heads. There are also 48 kinds of single-swing heads. In summary, there are nearly one hundred kinds of five-axis machine tools. Coupled with different control system types, the amount of post-processing will be very large. I recently found a good tool - EdgeCAM. Let's take a look at the five-axis post-processing in EdgeCAM.
In EdgeCAM, after configuring multiple coordinates, the processing is very simple. You can use the Code Wizard tool to complete the post-processing, no need to write more code. It's the easiest way to make post-processing. I just select the machine configuration, plus a standard template, and change it a bit. Avoiding the complicated coordinate transformation and other calculations, the fly in the ointment is that the post-processing template intelligence produced is applied in the EdgeCAM environment. The following figure shows the initial page of the template after configuring the dual-turn device in the CodeWizard environment.
After selecting this content, the post-production work is half done. After the selected template is determined, enter the parameter setting page, and its content category is exactly the same as the three-axis post-processing. The page is as follows:
In the machine structure page, set the reference type of the five-axis coordinates and the output mode of the rotary coordinates.
