SDI is a serial digital uncompressed transmission technology. After the analog-to-digital conversion of video, there are two ways to go - compressed or uncompressed. Among them, IP monitoring needs compression, that is, it can compress a large amount of bandwidth, make it possible to transmit video on an IP network, and at the same time reduce the storage pressure of video data, at the cost of sacrificing video quality (generally, there is a loss of information fidelity after compression, even Up to 20% or more), and there is a significant delay, while the openness of the transmission will also bring about certain security risks.

As for the digital non-compression technology indicated by SDI, it is encoded in a special way (lossless digital coding). There are also many technical standards, such as the common HDMI, DVI, and SDI that support 5 Gbps. The advantage is that the video quality is maximally fidelity, and the transmission has almost no delay, but the cost is a huge amount of video signal data.
