New record of low-cost solar cell creation efficiency

With the support of the Australian Solar Energy Research Institute, Professor Tim Schmidt of the School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney and the Helmholtz Material and Energy Center in Germany have developed a set of solar cells called “photochemical frequency increasing frequency conversion”. This technology improves the efficiency of solar cells by forcing two weak red photons to combine to form a light-harvesting, energetic yellow photon that is then converted to electricity.
