It is an indisputable fact that China's groundwater pollution is serious. It is an indisputable fact that China's groundwater pollution is serious. Especially since this year, various groundwater pollution incidents have been frequently exposed. At present, groundwater pollution has shown a trend from point to surface evolution, from east to west, from urban to rural areas, and from local to regional. Groundwater is different from surface water and is referred to as the "life water" of human beings. Once it is contaminated, it takes thousands of years to manage.
According to Dongguan environmental experts, groundwater is suffering from more and more serious pollution due to the discharge of industrial wastewater and domestic sewage, the use of super-quantitative fertilizers and pesticides, the leaching of landfills and the leakage of underground oil tanks. Experts from the China Geological Survey have pointed out that 90% of China's groundwater is contaminated to varying degrees and 64% is heavily polluted. Among the shallow groundwater in the 1.97 million square kilometers plain area evaluated by the National Water Resources Survey, groundwater pollution is the most serious in the Taihu, Liaohe, Haihe and Huaihe river basins. Fertilizers and pesticides lead to the prevalence of “three nitrogens†(ie ammonia nitrogen, nitrates, nitrites) in groundwater. In the provinces and cities of the Yangtze River Delta, nitrates in groundwater were found to exceed the standard. There are still organic pollutions in groundwater pollution. The relevant domestic departments have investigated and evaluated groundwater pollution, and generally detected trace organic substances. To a different extent, they have detected carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic “three†substances, which are not easily watered. Microbial degradation, but easily absorbed by the organism, returns to the human table through the food chain. Groundwater in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and other places has detected more than 100 kinds of pollutants, many of which are “three†substances.
In recent years, due to the large amount of groundwater being over-exploited, a large-scale underground funnel has been formed underground, which further intensifies the backflow of groundwater into groundwater. According to official reports, groundwater over-exploitation in North China reached 120 billion cubic meters, equivalent to the amount of water in 200 Baiyangdian Lakes. The groundwater level has been declining, resulting in the formation of a huge groundwater drop funnel area in the North China Plain. Sewage in these areas not only pollutes shallow groundwater, but also deep groundwater is easily contaminated as shallow layers of sewage continue to flow deeper.
