Hechang Xuchang Institute of Heterojunction Thin Film Solar Cell Materials

According to the report of Henan Xuchang University, the Zheng Zhi group of the Institute of Surface Micro and Nanomaterials recently made new progress in the research and development of new type heterojunction thin film solar cell materials. Relevant results were published in the Dalton Magazine hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

It is understood that while traditional monocrystalline silicon solar cells have high stability and photoelectric conversion efficiency, their production and application have been challenged as energy and environmental issues have become increasingly prominent. One important reason is that the preparation of the pn junction must be completed under high temperature conditions, and the complicated preparation process needs to consume higher energy and cause a certain degree of environmental pollution.

Zheng Zhiji's research group used some of the compound semiconductors for low temperature (room temperature) synthesis to prepare in-situ compound semiconductor films such as cuprous iodide, silver selenide, and bromide oxyhydroxide on the surface of semiconductors or conductive substrates. A uniform sheet-like or pyramid-like ordered array of pn junction films is fabricated into low-cost solar cell devices.

The pn junction film prepared by this kind of low temperature in-situ method can effectively improve the separation of photo-generated carriers and inhibit electron-hole recombination. It has the advantages of simple operation, quick response, good repeatability, easy film formation, low energy consumption, environment-friendly, and large-area preparation. It also overcomes the problems of particle agglomeration, microstructure destruction, impurity introduction, and high temperature in the traditional film formation process. Annealing, poor mechanical stability and other issues. This provides a new idea and reliable method for manufacturing large-area, low-cost and low-energy photoelectric thin films and devices.
