From January to April this year, China's pulp and paper export market rose

From January to April this year, the export situation of China's wood pulp, waste paper, and paperboard saw unpredictable and dramatic changes: the unit price of exports rose rapidly, the number of exports increased significantly, and the amount of value rose exponentially.

The export of waste paper was 90 times that of the same period of last year. From January to April this year, the total export volume of wood pulp, waste paper and paperboard in China reached 29,700 tons, an increase of 43.15% year-on-year. Among them, caustic soda wood pulp and other fiber wood pulp respectively increased by 63.23% and 41.4% compared with the same period of last year; the most surprising is the waste paper, the first-ever export of 494.445 tons, an increase of 9353.92% over the same period last year, which is last year 90 times over the same period. The remaining varieties are in decline. General mechanical pulp, chemical pulp, and sulfite pulp exported 0.7 tons, 79.84 tons, and 11.79 tons, respectively, down 99.44%, 49.91%, and 52.84% year-on-year respectively. However, among the many varieties of exports, these items are small in size, and their volume is not large. Therefore, they have a smaller negative effect on the growth of total exports.

Newsprint exported 9,752.36 tons from January to April this year, a year-on-year decrease of 72.58%.

In the first four months of newsprint, exports have decreased by 60% year-on-year. In the first 4 months of this year, the total value of China's wood pulp, waste paper, and paperboard exports reached 82.129 million US dollars, a significant year-on-year increase of 161.09%, a large increase, and only in recent years. Only the export value of general machinery wood pulp and chemical wood pulp decreased year-on-year, while the remaining varieties showed an increase. The export value of mechanical pulp and chemical wood pulp generally fell by 99.48% and 43.42% year-on-year, respectively, but the value of the export value of these two products is also a small head, and it cannot shake the general trend of this year's rapid increase in export value. The export value of caustic soda pulp, sulfite wood pulp and other fiber wood pulp and waste paper increased by 52.99%, 113.11%, 165.04% and 16750% respectively year-on-year. In particular, waste paper shows a trend of soaring, which is as much as 167 times as high as it was in history.

In the first four months of this year, the value of the export value of newspapers was 6.633 million US dollars, which was a significant drop of 63.38% year-on-year, which was a 60% reduction.

From the unit price level of export wood pulp and paper products. In the first four months of this year, the unit price for export of wood pulp, waste paper and paperboard in China was 2764.68 US dollars per ton, a year-on-year increase of 82.39%. Except that the export unit price of mechanical pulp and caustic soda pulp decreased by 20.66% and 6.28% year-on-year respectively, other varieties such as chemical wood pulp, other fiber wood pulp, and waste paper all showed a significant increase, among which sulphite wood pulp The largest increase was at US$1,102.63 per ton, a year-on-year increase of 351.9%, a surge of 3 times; the growth of chemical pulp was the lowest at US$1082.16 per ton, an increase of 12.96% over the same period last year.

In the first four months of this year, although the amount of export and value of newsprint have been greatly reduced, the export market is still good. This year it was 680.24 US dollars per ton, an increase of 33.55% over the same period of last year.

Pulp price rise will continue to be summarized as mentioned above. In the first four months of this year, China’s pulp and paper products have experienced an overall growth in terms of volume, price level, and value. It is the situation of rapid increase in export prices. This shows that on the one hand, the international market has been suppressed and the demand for pulp and paper products has been suppressed. On the other hand, the current price situation of the international pulp and paper products market has indeed shown dramatic changes. That is to say, in the atmosphere of rising demand for pulp and paper products, prices in the international market have also soared by more than 80%. This has obviously attracted the attention and control of relevant enterprises and export units in the industry. Since the beginning of this year, in addition to the 3 types of general mechanical pulp, chemical wood pulp and sulfite wood pulp exported from China in the past, the number of exports in the first 4 months of this year has decreased compared to the same period of last year, and other varieties have been shown. With the growth momentum, the export volume of other fiber pulp, which has been the most exported, has increased by more than 40%. As we all know, China is a large importer of waste paper. Exports of waste paper have historically been almost non-existent. In the first four months of this year, nearly 500 tons were exported, a surge of more than 90 times. These bright spots, I am afraid, are not unrelated to the changes in the international market. However, during the rapid increase in the price of pulp in the international market, newsprint with a unit price growth rate of more than 30% was exceeded. Since the number of exports in the first four months of this year decreased by more than 70%, the opportunity for a significant increase in the value of export value was lost.

According to industry insiders' prediction, this round of pulp price rise will continue and the 20%-40% range will still have some fluctuations. It does not even rule out the situation of individual varieties falling sharply, but the general trend will increase. No doubt. Although China is a small country for the export of pulp and paper products, it is very important for related departments and companies to grasp the timing of this long period of positive market conditions.
