Coke export tariffs will be cancelled next year

In the newly published "Export Commodity Tax Rate Table", the coke commodity name did not appear. According to the confirmation from the China Securities Journal, in 2013, the coke export tariff was cancelled. Analysts believe that domestic coke prices have certain competitive advantages in the world, and the cancellation of export tariffs is conducive to the export of coke enterprises.

According to the “Export Commodity Tariff Schedule” implemented in 2012, coal coke and semi-coke are subject to 40% of the export tariff rate. The industry has said that the downstream of coke is the steel industry. Due to the downturn in the downstream industry and the impediment of exports, the coke industry is experiencing an oversupply situation. China was once the largest exporter of coke, and the earliest coke export even had a 5% export tax rebate. Once tariffs are lifted, Japan, South Korea and India will give priority to purchasing Chinese coke. The loss of the industry in large areas is expected to reverse.

According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, from January to November 2012, China exported 960,000 tons of coke and semi-coke, which was 3.2 million tons in the same period of last year, a year-on-year drop of 70%. According to industry insiders, due to the higher tariffs, some enterprises that have obtained export quotas have also used incomplete quotas.
