Qinghai Province's "123" technology support project will be the key technology project for the production of battery-grade lithium carbonate from the salt lake brine in 2011 as one of the key scientific and technological projects. Li Jian introduced that the Qinghai Lithium Company used lithium ion-selective membrane separation technology to obtain battery-grade lithium carbonate from salt lake brine. The original domestic ore process can only produce lithium carbonate products, while the lithium salt from Qinghai Salt Lake can achieve lithium. The comprehensive utilization of potassium and boron, at the same time, solved the problem that the raw material for lithium carbonate production by the ore process is heavily dependent on imports. The technology can be used for the separation and extraction of lithium resources in the Qaidam Basin and other high-magnesium-lithium salt lakes in Qinghai Province.

“In the original scale of 3,000 tons of lithium carbonate production, we have expanded and expanded to a production capacity of 10,000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate production line. The output of the product can meet the needs of lithium battery cathode material production line in the province,” said Li Jian.

It is understood that at present, Qinghai Province, CITIC Guoan Investment Co., Ltd. uses the calcining method of magnesium separation technology, Qinghai Salt Lake Group uses adsorption technology, the three technical routes have been better used in the actual production.
